SEPPMail is Upgrading their Licensing and Update System

This summer, SEPPMail is making a significant upgrade to their internal system for licensing and updating SEPPMail appliances. The old system, the License and Update Server, has served us well, but it was time for an overhaul to meet the growing demands for scalability and extensibility.

SEPPMail is excited to introduce its successor: the new License and Update Server, codenamed KRONOS!

KRONOS will be responsible for all licensing, updates, domain certificate management, and support connections. This transition will be a single-step process, designed to be as smooth as possible for you.

The switch will happen on Thursday, September 25, 2025. On this day, update.seppmail.ch will permanently point to KRONOS internally. SEPPMail doesn’t anticipate any noticeable impact on their partners or customers. Of course, robust fallback scenarios are in place and SEPPMail has also planned for early-life support to address any unexpected issues that might arise. You can also monitor these changes and any planned maintenance on our status page: seppmail.statuspal.eu.

Action Required for Some Customers: Firewall Configuration

This is crucial for on-premises appliance customers and MSPs: If your firewall rules for port 22 access are configured using the IP address instead of the DNS name update.seppmail.ch, you must update this configuration.

  • The old IP address, valid until September 25, 2025, is 62.2.145.228.
  • The new IP address, valid from the evening of September 25, 2025, onwards, is 94.130.170.135.

Please ensure you update your firewall rules to use the new IP address or, ideally, the DNS name update.seppmail.ch to avoid any service interruptions.

System Status Monitoring

All SEPPMail systems running Version 14.1.1.1 or newer will automatically attempt to connect to the new license server. If this connection fails, you’ll see a corresponding message in the Admin GUI under “System status.” This makes it easy to verify that your appliance is communicating correctly with KRONOS.

We are changing to a new update mechanism for SEPPmail appliances. Connection attempt to new update server failed – please make sure this device is able to connect via port 22 to 94.130.170.135. (this message will vanish, as soon as a successful connection has been made)

There is also a SEPPMail information available regarding this message (link).

Need Support?

Should you encounter any issues after the migration, please report them to your usual support contacts. To help us quickly identify and address these tickets, please include “KRONOS” in the subject line of your support request.

We appreciate your cooperation as we implement this important upgrade to provide you with even more reliable and scalable services.
