SEPPmail: To ensure a database snapshot is done every day, an LFT partition is mandatory.

Since the update to version 14.x, the SEPPmail admin WebGUI displays the message:

“To ensure a database snapshot is done every day, an LFT partition is mandatory.”

Update from 20.02.2025: SEPPmail has recently added the steps to the official documentation which can be found here: https://docs.seppmail.com/de/09_ht_lft_datadisk_v14.html

To resolve this message, please proceed as follows:

  1. Create a new virtual harddisk with a minimum size of 30GB and attach it to your SEPPmail virtual appliance.
  2. Reboot your SEPPmail VM.
  3. Reboot your SEPPmail VM once again (second reboot) to finish the disk mounting.
  4. Check, if the message has disappeared.

Background Information

From version 14, a snapshot of the database is created every night, but only if the system has an LFT partition. This is done on all systems with a database. The snapshots can then be restored under Administration >> Backup >> Restore. A full snapshot is always taken on Sundays, and incremental snapshots are taken on the other days. The snapshots of the last 14 days are kept.

If the VM has no LFT partition, the red hint above is shown.
